In its push to stay current and build high-impact solutions for clients, GoDoWorks added a new feature to its field process geo-management software, bringing in artificial intelligence.
From its own experience, GDW identified the challenges companies face in monitoring and verifying the use of safety equipment, and saw how artificial intelligence works as a key differentiator in managing field workers.
That is why GDW built its own image recognition tool, which lets companies get more out of the information they process, generating real-time data that becomes knowledge applied to fast decisions and action, saving time and cutting costs.
The new GDW feature uses artificial intelligence to identify, from a photograph, whether a field worker is meeting every required safety measure and wearing their personal protective equipment (PPE)
What the new AI feature does for field workers
For people working in the field, the feature lets them confirm with a photo (a selfie) that they are wearing every safety item they need to do their job without taking risks.
Through artificial intelligence, the software recognizes the items of safety equipment and verifies that each area is covered, guaranteeing the worker's protection. Using PPE Detection, the system identifies the equipment in real time and captures the information needed.

So if the system detects that a safety item is missing, it raises an alert notifying both the worker and the administrative team.
What the new AI feature does for the office team
With this system, and through a photo taken on a phone, each field worker verifies their working conditions and that they have their safety equipment, which gives the office team confirmation that everyone in the field has the protective gear they need to work safely on the street.
The system alerts the office team whenever it detects a missing safety item on one of the field workers, which allows fast action in real time to put it right, while making sure no worker who is not properly equipped gets approved to start.
The checklist the AI software runs covers the following safety equipment:
- Safety accessories (vests)
- Eye protection (safety glasses)
- Hearing protection
- Hand protection (gloves)
- Head protection (hard hat)
- Accessories (vests)
- Respiratory protection (masks)
The data collection system of GDW with artificial intelligence is configured to ask each operator for a selfie. When the photo is taken, the system determines in real time whether the safety conditions and PPE are met.
If they are not, the system sends an alert and the operator cannot start the task or track it through the GDW software until the situation is put right and the full set of personal safety equipment is in place.
GDW will keep adding features that make it easier to track tasks and verify conditions, improving processes and field work.
