Cost per service
Cost per service is how much each complete intervention costs: the person hour, the travel, the materials and the proportional share of overhead. It is the figure used to set a price and to compare efficiency between zones or between contracts.
Most operations estimate it instead of measuring it, because the three components live in different systems: hours in the time clock, materials in inventory and travel nowhere at all. Consolidating them against the work order is what turns the estimate into a fact.
When it is measured properly, two uncomfortable and useful things show up: contracts that are being propped up by the margin of others, and services whose real cost is dominated by travel rather than by the work itself.
