Planogram
A planogram is the diagram that defines how products should be arranged on the shelf: what goes on each level, how many facings per product and in what order. It is the standard against which what is actually in the store gets compared.
It serves two purposes at once: building the shelf and auditing it. Without a planogram, in-visit verification depends on the judgement of whoever is looking; with one, the comparison is objective and the finding can be documented with a photo and a concrete difference.
Planogram compliance is usually one of the clauses in the commercial agreement with the chain, so measuring it is not just operational control: it is what backs a negotiation when the time comes to renew the space.
