Field Service Management (FSM)
Field Service Management is the discipline — and the software category — concerned with planning, assigning, executing and verifying the work a company performs outside its own premises: maintenance, installations, inspections, deliveries and sales visits.
An FSM system covers the full cycle of an intervention: the order is created, assigned to whoever can resolve it, the person executes it with a mobile app, leaves evidence of what they did, and that record feeds invoicing and the indicators. What distinguishes it from an ERP or a CRM is that its unit of work happens on the street and not at a desk.
In Latin America the problem it solves has a particular twist: operations are dispersed, journeys are long and connectivity is irregular. That is why proximity-based assignment and offline work weigh so heavily here, when in denser markets they are details and here they decide the cost per service.
